Luther
During the scene we were shown in Luther, we were shown various representations of gender. The representations consisted of mise en scene, camera shots and angles, editing and sound.
We are first shown a man who is straight away being questioned and it seems that he lacks power. Luther is questioned by the woman about his marriage which he is very cagey about and seems to show emotion when this is brought up. Luther however shows he is a strong willed character as he resists a sexual audience when the woman appears to be coming on to him and then grabs his face. Luther comes across as a smartly dressed character who wears a nice suit to work and is an overall nice person which was my first perception of him.
The camera shots that were used the most and throughout was the over the shoulder shot which popped up a lot as the whole scene was a conversation. This is where the camera is looking at someone else but over the other persons shoulder. Another shot that is in this clip is the pan shot when it gets them both in the clip. The cameras always cut to the person speaking as if it were a spotlight on them. The music in the background of this video clip feels like there is tension.
At the end on the clip, Luther begins to win back the power of the conversation I feel and he is now the one in control, unlike before where the woman seemed to have all of the power over Luther.
While the woman is speaking about the black hall, the music that is being played is quite weary and dark, this then suggests that the overall darkness of this character. This then goes against the general stereotype of women in TV dramas because women are usually below the men and she seems to mostly have power over Luther and be in control of the situation.
The characters are shown with the same structure and power. This is also shown by the camera angles which are shown. These are also indicated by the numerous angles shown, which are two shots, zooms and high close ups which then causes tension between the characters.

The Male Gaze

The music video that i am studying is by Busta Rhymes and is called Twerk It.

At 1 minute and 10 seconds, this image is shown and it is the girls twerking. This is objectifying women as they are doing it just for a males enjoyment. The women are shown with little clothing or tight clothing and are in sexual stances. This is to attract male viewers to the music video which then it will gain population. The way her pants are revealing is also to attract a male audience.

Once again it is shown that the video is exposing women and showing indecent images of them just so it will attract the male media and interest them. they are all doing sexual stances again while twerking.

This is also showing that the video is aimed at males as it is women half naked and dancing around for male attention.
